Si la France est reconnue comme à la pointe de l’optique mondiale, c’est qu’elle peut s’appuyer sur un réseau historique d’organismes de recherche d’excellence et une communauté d’entrepreneurs à travers tout son territoire. La photonique française aujourd’hui, ce sont 80 000 emplois qualifiés générant une activité estimée à 15 milliards d’euros sur un marché mondial qui attendrait les 525 milliards en 2020.

Le 16 mai a eu lieu, sous l’égide du Comité National LUMIERE & SOCIETE au Palais de l’UNESCO à Paris, la célébration de la Journée Internationale de la Lumière. La cérémonie, déroulée sous le signe de la rencontre avec trois prix Nobel, a réuni des philosophes, artistes lyriques, comédiens, architectes, historiens d’art, éditeurs de livres, artistes de la lumière.

The European Parliament and European Council recently signed a partial political agreement on Horizon Europe. This agreement endorsed the European Commission proposal for three levels of European partnerships in the future Horizon Europe programme, including co-programmed partnerships based on the cPPP model as per Photonics21 in Horizon 2020.

EPIC and Ethernet Alliance are mutually motivated in cooperative activities involving industry endorsement of standards and technology roadmaps. The partnership will encourage direct contact and cooperation between the consortiums and its members, including participation at events, writing joint articles, collaborate in information exchange and promotion, and advisory mandates with an aim of bringing cooperation and, ultimately, support the development of an efficient and sustainable industry.

Pilot line project InPulse launches to give Europe edge in integrated photonics

The four-year project InPulse kicked off in Eindhoven on 23 January. It will offer new-entrant companies direct access to state-of-the-art manufacturing of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) based on indium phosphide. This will enable the development of products for a wide range of new markets. 16 European partners have started InPulse to reduce barriers and accelerate development. They are backed by 14 million Euros of funding from the European Commission. The pilot line will enable innovators to develop products fast, thus being able to focus on their products rather than the technologically complex task of fabrication.

À compter de 2018, le 16 mai devient, à l’initiative de l’UNESCO, la Journée internationale de la Lumière. Pour l’année 2018 et les suivantes, l’UNESCO a désigné le Comité National Lumière et Société « National Node » de cette journée, qui devient en France la Journée de la Lumière en France.
Création de Photonics France, la fédération française de la photonique

Les Assemblées Générales de l’AFOP, le syndicat professionnel de l’Optique Photonique et du CNOP, le Comité National d’Optique et de Photonique ont voté leur fusion pour devenir Photonics France, le 24 avril 2018. Association loi 1901, Photonics France est la fédération française de la photonique. Elle regroupe les industriels, les académiques et les associations de la photonique en France.
UNESCO proclaims May 16th as the International Day of Light

The 39th Session of the UNESCO General Conference has today proclaimed the date of May 16th as the International Day of Light. The proclamation of this annual International Day will enable global appreciation of the central role that light and light-based technologies play in the lives of the citizens of the world in areas of science, technology, culture, education, and sustainable development. The International Day of Light is an enduring follow-up to UNESCO’s highly successful International Year of Light in 2015 that reached over 100 million people in over 140 countries.
Memorandum of understanding between Russian Laser Association and EPIC

Ivan Kovsh, president of the Russian Laser Association, and Carlos Lee, Director General of EPIC (European Photonics Industry Consortium ) signed on 27 February 2018 a collaboration agreement. The signature took place at the 14th international exhibition for laser, optical and optoelectronic technologies at the Expocentre fairgrounds in Moscow, Russia.
EPIC Annual General Meeting 2018 - 15th Anniversary Celebration

The EPIC Annual General Meeting will be held 18-20 April in Berlin. EPIC is proud to celebrate its 15th anniversary with more than 200 executives (75% of the attendees are CEO, CTO, Managing Directors). The event features company visits, technology and market presentations, round table discussions, and the introduction of new EPIC members. But the core of the event is truly networking!
