Scintil Photonics raises €13.5M in second round financing led by Robert Bosch Venture Capital
Scintil Photonics, a supplier of advanced silicon photonic integrated circuits with monolithically integrated lasers and optical amplifiers, today announces it has secured €13.5M ($14.4M) in second round funding. Robert Bosch Venture Capital (RBVC) led the round, with historic shareholders Innovacom, Supernova Invest and Bpifrance, through its Digital Venture fund, reinvesting to bring the company’s total funding to €17.5M ($18.8M), to date.

Pushing electroluminescence of nanocrystals beyond telecom wavelengths
Nanocrystals are semiconductor nanoparticles with size tunable optical features. They are now mature enough to be integrated as light sources in displays. In such devices, nanocrystals can be optically excited and used as a light down converter to generate green and red light from a blue light emitting diode (LED) made of InGaN. A more complicated challenge is the use of nanocrystals as active material for LED where they have to be both optically and electrically active. Since the early 2000s, such nanocrystal-based LEDs have been demonstrated in the visible and near infrared range. However, up to now, there are no reports of nanocrystal-based electroluminescence above 1.7 µm. This spectral range corresponds to a technological gap. Indeed, up to telecom wavelengths (1.55 µm) quantum well technologies based on III-V materials provide an efficient and powerful light source, and above 4 µm the quantum cascade laser is now well established. In the middle, only a few systems can be used. A consortium of researchers in Paris has explored the potential of HgTe nanocrystals for electroluminescence above 2 µm.

Le groupe Gorgé annonce être entré en négociations exclusives avec les actionnaires de la société iXblue pour acquérir 100% du capital de la société. Ce projet stratégique majeur permettra de créer un acteur de premier plan mondial sur des technologies de pointe à destination des applications critiques notamment de la Défense, du Spatial et des opérations maritimes. Ce rapprochement valorise le nouvel ensemble ECA Group-iXblue près de 800 M€.
Ulrike Helfferich joins EPIC as Chief Operating Officer
EPIC strengthens its team by appointing Ulrike Helfferich as Chief Operating Officer, to supervise daily business operations lead, key initiatives, and implement organisation-wide strategies. EPIC, the European Photonics Industry Consortium has become the world-largest photonics industry association, with more than 760 members within the last few years. To address the needs of the growing membership, Ulrike brings over 30 years of experience and deep knowledge of the photonic market, which will reinforce the robust systems and processes of the organization. "What I found most compelling about EPIC was its undisputed influence in the photonics sector,” said Helfferich. “EPIC brings together the entire value chain to enable new business opportunities and creates collaborative bonds to facilitate technological innovation something that is truly mission-critical for the members and European industry.
