Off-the-Shelf Extended Depth of Focus Metalenses for Laser Systems

Off-the-Shelf Extended Depth of Focus Metalenses for Laser Systems

Single-element, drop-in metalenses replace complex laser optics assemblies while maintaining precise focus over extended depth

Press release. Edmund Optics® has announced the availability of off-the-shelf Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) metalenses, making advanced meta-optics commercially accessible without the cost and delays of custom development. For the first time, engineers can source metalenses directly from the Edmund Optics Marketplace, enabling faster prototyping and accelerating the path from design to production.

By replacing more complex optical assemblies with a single flat component, EDOF metalenses can help reduce system size, complexity, and alignment requirements. The lenses maintain a controlled focal spot over an extended depth of focus, reducing sensitivity to positioning errors and minimizing the need for frequent refocusing.

Designed for integration into select laser systems, including Ti:Sapphire, Yb-doped, and Nd:YAG lasers, the lenses are well suited for applications such as laser material processing, marking, and beam shaping, where consistency and performance are critical. By bringing metalens technology into an accessible off-the-shelf offering, Edmund Optics enables organizations to move from concept to deployment faster while reducing risk and upfront investment.

With immediate availability, engineering support, and access to a broad portfolio of 34,000+ complementary optical components, customers can now more efficiently design, prototype, and scale next-generation laser systems.
